Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! I know that this year is going to be a great year for the JMS Fox Band. This year is going to be a packed schedule as before. I would love to see each and every one of you in the band. This year we will offer 7th grade and 8th-grade beginning bands. Welcome to Johnakin Middle School Band!

Materials needed

  1. Instruments that are in good working order!
  2. Books: Available at local music stores, amazon, or through Tepedino

6th grade- Habits for a Successful Beginning Band Member, Book 1

7th/8th grade- Habits for a Successful Middle School Musician

  1. Pencil- Every day!
  2. Metronome/Tuner: All students should own a combination tuner/metronome. 
  3. Instrument Supplies:

 

-Flutes - Cotton handkerchief, polishing cloth, tuning rod 

-Clarinets - 3 good reeds daily! (HIGHLY recommended Juno or Rico size 2.5 for 6th grade, VanDoren Classic size 2.5 for 7th graders & size 3 for 8th graders), Hanky Swab, reed guard

-Saxes -3 good reeds daily! (HIGHLY recommended Juno or Rico size 2.5 for 6th grade, VanDoren Classic size 2.5 for 7th graders & size 3 for 8th graders), cloth swab, reed guard, sturdy neck strap, ligature, and mouthpiece.

-Trumpet - valve oil, tuning slide grease, cleaning "snake"(for home use), mouthpiece brush

-Horn - rotary oil, tuning slide grease, cleaning "snake"(for home use), mouthpiece brush

-Trombones - Slide oil (yes, it matters) or Slide-o-mix (best stuff), tuning slide grease, cleaning "snake" (for home use), and a mouthpiece brush

-Euphonium/Tuba- Mouthpiece and Brass cleaning kit. 

-Percussion-Pad and Bell Kit
